The Seine banks by bike
From north to south, the Seine crosses Melun with banks, shaded quays and small pebble beaches. The cycle path upstream towards Vaux-le-Vicomte, or downstream to Fontainebleau and La Rochette, rolls along gently. You rent two bikes, pack a snack, stop on a bench: an easy date to take the time to talk and watch the barges pass.
At the heart of Fontainebleau Forest
A few kilometres to the south, Fontainebleau Forest is one of the largest woodlands in the Paris region. Sandstone rocks, pines, beeches and marked trails make it an endless playground for walkers, climbers and strollers. The artists’ village of Barbizon, where Millet and Rousseau painted, extends the walk with a studio visit and a terrace break tucked under the canopy.
Almont, water sports and villages
North of the city, the Almont winds through town before joining the Seine, offering unexpected green corners. A little further, the Grande Paroisse leisure park offers a beach, sailing and pedal boats in fine weather. On Lyad, Melun members share their hikes and swim spots; it is up to you to find someone to dip your toes in the water on a summer Sunday.
